🔘 2024 GMTK Game Jam Submission 🔘

The theme for this jam was 'Built to Scale'

⚡ How to Play ⚡

⚠️ Full-Screen is Recommended ⚠️

Here's a short guide! (TO NOT GET SOFTLOCKED AT BEGINNING)

  1. Start by laying the foundations, build one house to generate income
  2. Build one field to feed your people
  3. Support field with one windmill nearby and build one well to water them
  4. Construct one mine near rocks for stone
  5. Construct one lumbermill near trees for wood
  6. Have fun! Go crazy but be careful!
VillagersNeed crops to survive
HouseProduces coins, can be placed anywhere
FarmProduces crops, can be placed anywhere but requires a windmill nearby and a well
WindmillPlace next to farms to gather water and crops
WellProvides a finite source of water
LumbermillProduces wood when placed near trees
MineProduces stone when placed near small rocks

Currently you can't sell buildings or buy units so getting softlocked is possible so make sure to place atleast one lumbermill and mine before running out of starting materials!

📍 Gameplay 📍

townScale is a town builder with aspects of strategy and resource management. The objective is to build and expand your town, building a larger population of occupants.

You start from scratch and begin placing foundation of your town. There is a small selection of buildings just to get you started with shaping your town, as we have run out of time to include a larger variety of buildings and options to choose out of for expanding your town and creating a more challenging management game.

Every human needs to eat, naturally... And with that you must provide for your people, building enough farms to generate food for all. Otherwise the people will starve and you will pay... literally, pay to replace them. (which didn't make it into the game, they just die).

For the farms to function you need to have a windmill that will provide workers. These farmers only perform their duties on fields near to their windmill and will be able to grow crops only when given water which you can gain from the wells.

🗨️ After Thoughts 💬

Whilst there is a lot we wanted to still add to it, you can still spend some time in the game shaping a town, whilst mainly managing your farms and keeping up with enough crops to feed everyone and buying new wells to water the fields.

As it goes with game jams, not everything makes it into the game, like a larger range of building types, including soldiers which would introduce combat and defending yourself against not so friendly foes.

And additionally more progression within the game with levelling up of each of your buildings adding onto management of resources which are needed to get there.

Assets Used

We focused on gameplay in this jam and therefore have used pre-existing assets. Big shout out to Kay and Kenny for creating these fantastic assets.
